Toss Game History
The real history of the game cornhole, or bag toss, is highly disputed. There are stories on the games origin. These stories range from a farmer in Kentucky inventing the game to pass the time between crop cycles in the early 1900’s to a 14th century German creating the game to mimic children throwing rocks at ground hogs. Regardless of the exact conception of the game, it holds true that the game has seen a great boost in popularity since the late 1990’s. The larges outburst in popularity in the United States was in the mid west around Chicago and Cincinnati after the game was commonly seen at football tailgates.
The Start of Midnight Cornhole
My family and friends have enjoyed the game of cornhole for several years but we have always run into problems with the quality of game play when the sunlight goes down. We have tried lights under the boards, portable floodlights, ring lights, etc… but nothing played the same. Eventually we tried using a Plexiglas surface that was lit up from behind by Christmas lights. It was very basic but the potential was there. Since then we have done extensive testing, product development and market research to create the best possible light up cornhole board. This light up cornhole board is the ultimate answer to playing cornhole at night. This is a truly remarkable playing experience.
Cornhole Rules and Regulations
There are two major governing bodies for the rules and regulations of the game cornhole (also known as bag toss). The American Cornhole Organization and the American Cornhole Association. Both governing bodies hold tournaments and rank their players. Both also publish rules for the game regarding pitching distance, scoring, board size etc… The basic rules remain the same for both groups. The boards are placed 27’ apart. The games can be played with singles or doubles. The object of the game is to reach 21. Each team throws 4 bags each round. They are scored 3 points for in the hole and 1 point for on the board. First team to be winning with at least 21 at the end of a round wins.
